Costa Navarino, an unspoiled Greek paradise.

C’è una terra dove splende sempre il sole (perlomeno nel cuore). C’è una terra che è la culla della civiltà.

Un angolo di mondo capace di raccontare storie che profumano di rosmarino, miele e olio d’oliva.

C’era una volta un uomo che ha voluto restituire alla sua terra natale e popolo i doni di madre natura.

Tutto nasce dall’idea di rispetto, verso la storia, le tradizioni , la comunità locale e finisce con l’esaltazione del proprio patrimonio.

Questo luogo ha un nome: Costa Navarino e si trova sul Peloponneso in Grecia.

La parola chiave è una: Sostenibilità. Si tratta infatti della prima meta sostenibile sul Mediterraneo.

Pensate che per la creazione del resort sono stati espiantati e ricollocati più di 6500 ulivi.

Un’enorme area nella regione della Messinia bagnata da acque cristalline, pulitissime sabbie fini e un silenzio interrotto solo dal fruscio degli alberi e canto degli uccellini.

Sono stata in questo paradiso terrestre qualche giorno fa, insieme ad un team tutto al femminile capace di rendere questa esperienza ancor più speciale.

Si parte da Roma che da Giugno 2016 attiverà ufficialmente rotte Vueling per Kalamata (idem da Milano), il più grande centro vicino a Costa Navarino (circa mezz’ora in auto).

Lo scenario che si apre agli occhi è di immense distese verdi, precisamente 130 ettari su cui sorgono 2 grandi resort: Il Westin ed il Romanos. Il primo più indicato per le famiglie, il secondo per chi vuole vivere un’esperienza luxury a 360 gradi (coppie o viaggi di lavoro).  Ancora sogno le infinity pool private che guardano il mare al tramonto.

La mia esperienza ha inizio con un calice di 1827 Chardonnay, un vino prodotto proprio dalla tenuta che prende il nome dalla battaglia navale combattuta nelle acque antistanti i miei occhi, per l’indipendenza greca. Fu l’ultimo scontro navale in cui le imbarcazioni erano tutte a vela.

Incontriamo così la gentilissima pr dell’hotel che ha saputo farci innamorare di queste terre con estrema dolcezza e accontentando ogni nostra richiesta. Quando c’è amore per il proprio lavoro si trasmette per osmosi.

Si torna in camera e l’appuntamento è per cena, in uno dei 21 ristoranti della struttura. Qualche secondo per posare i miei pesantissimi – come sempre- bagagli e sento fortissimo il richiamo del mare. E’ l’ora del tramonto e sulla Navarino Bay ho sentito già storie bellissime.

Cammino da sola alla ricerca delle bianche dune incontaminate ed a ogni angolo lo scenario è di distese di margherite, piscine a sfioro e profumo di natura nell’aria.

Arrivo alla spiaggia e tolgo le scarpe, sentire la sabbia sotto i piedi è una delle sensazioni più belle. L’aria è fresca e sulla lunga lingua di sabbia solo spettatori della magia del tramonto.

Su questo lido durante il mese di Agosto le tartarughe di mare vengono a depositare le uova per vederle schiudere qualche giorno dopo. Inutile dire che avrei voluto assistere con i miei occhi, l’emozione sarebbe immensa.

Se alcuni dei più vecchi abitanti del pianeta hanno scelto questo luogo per dare la vita, immaginerete lo spettacolo che mi si è prospettato davanti.

Ma c’è molto da dire per cui ve la racconto passo passo:

A a corner of world able to tell stories with the scent of rosemary, honey and olive oil.
There once was a man who wanted to return to his native land and the people, the mother nature gifts.
Everything came from the idea of respect for history, traditions, the local community and ends with the exaltation of its assets.
This land has a name: Costa Navarino and is located on the Peloponnese in Greece.
The key word is: Sustainability. It is indeed the first sustainable destination on the Mediterranean.
Think about that for the creation of the resort were explanted and replaced more than 6500 olive trees.
A huge area in the region of Messinia bathed by crystal clear waters, spotless fine sands and a silence broken only by the rustle of the trees and singing birds.
I was in this earthly paradise a few days ago, along with an all-female team capable of making this experience more special.
It starts from Rome and in June 2016 will be officially activated Vueling routes to Kalamata (also from Milan), the largest center near Costa Navarino (about half an hour by car).
The scenario that opens to our eyes is of immense green fields, namely 130 hectares on which there are two large resorts: The Westin and The Romanos. The first best suited for families, the second for those who want to experience luxury living at 360 degrees (couples or business trips). Still dream the private infinity pool overlooking the sea at sunset.
My experience begins with a glass of Chardonnay in 1827, the wine produced by the resort and its named  came from the naval battle fought in the waters in front of my eyes, for Greek independence. It was the last naval battle in which the boats were all sailing.
We meet the dear pr of the hotel that has managed to make us fall in love with these lands satisfying our every request. When there is love for one’s work is transmitted by osmosis.
Coming back in the room and the appointment is for dinner in one of the 21 restaurants of the structure. A few seconds to put down my heavy – as always- luggage and I feel very strongly the call of the sea. And it’s sunset time and  I’ve already heard great stories about the Navarino Bay.
I walk alone in searching the white dunes and on every corner of the scenario is expanses of daisies, infinity pools and scent of nature.
At the beach I take off my shoes, feel the sand under my feet is one of the most beautiful feelings. The air is fresh and on the long strip of sand just spectators of the magic of the sunset.
On this shore during the month of August the sea turtles come to lay eggs to see them open up a few days later. Needless to say, I wanted to see it with my own eyes, the emotion would be immense.
If some of the older inhabitants of the planet have chosen this place to create, imagine the spectacle in front of my eyes.
But there’s a lot to say so I will tell you step by step:

Alla mattina del giorno successivo, uno degli innumerevoli chef della struttura ci ha mostrato i prodotti utilizzati nei deliziosi piatti gustati la sera prima. Direttamente nei campi abbiamo avuto modo di toccare con mano le coltivazioni, tra basilico, insalata ed alcuni ortaggi speciali. Ci hanno infatti raccontato che grazie agli studi eseguiti dall’Università di Atene sono stati ri-donati alle proprie terre le originali erbe che erano presenti in quest’area secoli fa.

In the morning of the following day, one of the many on-site chef showed us the products used in the delicious dishes tasted the night before at Flame restaurant. Directly in the fields we have got a chance to touch the crops, including basil, salad and some special vegetables. They told us, infact, that thanks to studies conducted by the University of Athens were re-donated to this land  the original herbs that were present in this area centuries ago.
Un luogo speciale per una colazione ricchissima, un buffet sconfinato dove gustare specialità di ogni tipo. Pancakes appena fatti ed un falco per amico a farci compagnia. -Il luogo è talmente incontaminato che sono gli uccellini a farla da padroni, soltanto un falco riesce ad allontanarli. Hermes grazie per aver salvato il nostro pasto mattutino!

Per gli amanti del Golf, Costa Navarino è un vero paradiso. Sconfinate dune verdi che guardano al mare.

For the golf lovers, Costa Navarino is a real paradise. A lot of green dunes overlooking the sea.
Ma il mio angolino di paradiso personale è stato questo: Anazoe Spa. Una delle Spa più premiate al mondo in grado di offrire esperienze sensoriali di relax totale. La maggior parte delle terapie sono basate sulla teoria di Ippocrate, padre della medicina, che descrive l’olio d’oliva come il più importante mezzo terapeutico.

Il trattamento che ho provato è stato  realizzato proprio con olio d’oliva e miele caldo su tutto il corpo. La mia pelle ne ha beneficiato immediatamente.

Sapevate che nell’Antica Grecia questo nettare veniva perlopiù utilizzato per i trattamenti estetici piuttosto che come alimento?!

But my truly corner of paradise is this: Anazoe Spa. One of the most awarded spa in the world able to offer a total relaxing experience. Most of the therapies are based on the theory of Hippocrates, father of medicine, describing the olive oil as “the great therapeutic”.

The treatment I tried was made just with olive oil and warm honey all over my body.

Did you know that in ancient Greece this nectar was mostly used for beauty treatments rather than as food ?!

Per i più piccoli tanti sono i divertimenti. Un grande acquapark con adiacente diner in perfetto stile americano che ospita al suo interno una sala cinema e una grande pista da bowling. Ma ciò che più mi ha colpita è il grande castello di sabbia costruito per ospitare dai più grandi ai più piccoli ( anche per pernottamento).

For the little ones there are so many entertainments. A large aqua park with adjacent diner in perfect American style that houses inside a cinema room and a large bowling alley. But what most impressed me is the biggest sand castle built to accommodate kids (also for the night).

Ma il mio racconto non finisce qui, presto vi narrerò dei sapori locali e di tutte le meraviglie che circondano Costa Navarino. Un luogo perfetto per chi è a caccia di una meta incontaminata fatta di mare cristallino, storia da scoprire e cultura mediterranea del cibo.
