Caribbean are my favorite place in the world, they have the instantaneous ability to make me feel the sun inside.
An overwhelming and multi-faceted culture, lush nature, crystal clear sea and long beaches of fine sand.
Last December, just before Christmas, I had the opportunity to discover one of the most loved islands: Jamaica, thanks to the Tourist Board and the Alidays tour operator through which you can live exactly our trip!
The best time to visit is right between December and April, when the rains are less frequent. In reality, the climate is tropical, so temperatures are high all year round (between 20 and 30 degrees).
The official language of the island is English (being part of the Commonwealth) and the American dollar is accepted everywhere (even if the official currency is the Jamaican dollar).
The strong point? Reggae culture.
Let’s go to the discovery of the Caribbean island of Bob Marley!
How to get to Jamaica
Jamaica is one of the Caribbean islands best connected to the United States.
It will be easy to find a multitude of connections from the main US airports: New York, Atlanta, Miami, etc.
Partner of our trip was Delta, one of the main American airlines.
The first flight from Rome Fiumicino to Atlanta takes about 10 hours and is then followed by a much shorter one, about 3 hours, to Montego Bay (the perfect tourist airport as a point of arrival).
Please, don’t forget to apply for ESTA (the American tourist visa).
No visa is required for entry to Jamaica, but if you stop in the USA (even for one hour), you must apply for it.
Where to sleep and how to organize excursions
If you are thinking of traveling as a couple with your sweetheart, this island is definitely the right thing for you. Everything seems to have been thought and studied (on a tourist level) to be made in two.
The hotels are varied in the main tourist areas (Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril) and have the peculiarity of pampering the tourist as much as possible, almost always in an all inclusive formula.
Jamaica is not “very simple” to live if you are not local and in many areas it still remains not too safe.
I recommend that you organize your trip through a tour operator such as Alidays who can take care of your stay and organize excursions.
There is so much to discover in this land beyond the sea!
Couples Tower Isle Resort – Ocho Rios
Our week-long trip in the sun starts from Ocho Rios at Couples Tower Isle Resort.
Jamaica is the perfect couple island and this is the most incredible place to relax with your partner.
The formula is that of couples only, adults only and there is an area dedicated to nudists.
In front of the resort emerges a small island where clothes are prohibited from 9 in the morning until sunset.
How to totally unplug the plug with cin cin!
Before getting to Montego Bay we have a day dedicated to discovering the favorite activities of Jamaicans (and not only).
Mystic Mountain is the weekend’s “place to be”. You go up with a funicular over a very green tropical clearing to arrive in a sort of amusement park.
Dunn’s River Falls is instead a true natural jewel where you can go rafting, don’t forget your rock shoes!
Round Hill Hotel & Villas
Round Hill is the wonderful design hotel 20 minutes from Montego Bay airport.
It does not often happen to be in luxurious sea view rooms conceived and designed by Ralph Lauren.
This hotel has a soul, and it is very rare to find properties that have it around the world.
In addition to the 36 beautiful sea-view suites, the hill houses 27 incredible villas much loved throughout history by illustrious personalities.
To name a few: Paul McCartney, Grace Kelly, Princess Margaret etc.
An effortless chic structure housed in ancient 1950s buildings restored to become a Caribbean pearl.
We greet with such displeasure this unique structure in the world but a horseback ride in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea awaits us before the next stop.
Beaches Negril by Sandals
In the move between Montego Bay and Negril I had the opportunity to ask our Jamaican driver which was the most beautiful sea on the island.
The answer? Negril’s Seven Mile Beach !!!
As soon as we arrived in the gigantic resort signed Sandals I could not see it with my own eyes, truly one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (with super suggestive sunsets).
If you are a family, the Beaches is the right hotel for you. There are many attractions for the little ones and they will certainly never be bored here (complete with Pirates Island water park).
The formula is that of luxury included. In fact, in addition to the incredible food offer (with 7 restaurants and even an Italian pizzeria) it also included activities.
If you plan to get married, the wedding is included in your stay package !!!!
My favorite activity? Snorkeling in one of the most beautiful underwater worlds I’ve ever seen (especially for animal species).
Thanks Jamaica, “land of wood and water”, it was a pleasure to meet you!
